The days may be wild and crazy but they are filled with love. I wouldn't trade our life together for anything

No IEP, no OHI, but a 504
Welcome to the language of education. So glad I have a degree in this stuff and experience with it. It could be quite daunting if I didn't, at least the terminology would be! I knew Matthew wouldn't need an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) because he is to smart (or not dumb enough depending on how you look at it). There was the chance he could qualify for OHI (Other Health Impairment) due to ADHD but the ADHD doesn't affect his school work. He does however qualify for a 504 which just means that he is allowed certain accommodations such as tests read to him or extra time on tests etc. We have his initial evaluation for Auditory Processing issues on Friday. His testing through the schools has found that, while his deficiencies are actually at grade level, they are significantly below his intellectual level. So they agree that there is something not connecting. The school has done a wonderful job assessing and helping Matthew reach his full potential. The entire process from the day I initiated it took less than 2 months and that includes Fall break, Thanksgiving, and Christmas!) They are now waiting for my results from the audiologist to see what other accommodations we may need to make.

We are still here!
One of these days I will download pictures and get some posted. We are all alive and well, knock on wood! We had a wonderful Christmas with my parents. They left at the beginning of the new year and we have jumped back into life with both feet. Matthew is getting ready for the Pinewood Derby, Katherine is loving school and gymnastics. Bailey is missing the multiple ball throwing sessions he enjoys when Gramps is around! Brian is doing well at work. I have been running after the four of them, just trying to keep up! We have a meeting next week for Matthew's IEP. He has been doing very well this year, but still struggles with language--reading, spelling, writing. There may be some issues with language processing. We will see what the experts have to say. I can't complain though. We have gotten him into the reading specialist at school and he has some accommodations in place if needed. He currently has all As and one B. Not bad huh?! We will keep you posted!
